By 1993 Master Mellgren was promoted to Ni-Dan, and became an instructor of Isshin-Ryu. Shortly thereafter, Mike began his study of Ryukyu Kempo Tode-Jitsu, and has since been highly dedicated to the "old" art of karate jitsu.

Master Mellgren founded Koryu Dojo in 1996 to provide a school where students learn the combative art of Ryukyu Kempo, Kyusho-Jitsu and Tuite-Jitsu. His dedication is to preserve, continue an in-depth understanding and pass along the combative art to future generations…"To surpass the master, repays the debt", Tamio Yoshida
