Sensei Nick Dougherty

Nick Dougherty (3rd Dan) began his martial arts journey 19 years ago studying Tae Kwon Do. Not long into his training Sensei Dougherty’s instructor began studying Ryukyu Kempo, and Sensei Dougherty saw for the first time what his art actually meant. During this time Nick began to question his original teachings and, being an instructor himself, could no longer accept what traditional arts had to offer. After earning his Ni-Dan, he dedicated himself solely to the study of Ryukyu Kempo, and left his Tae Kwon Do behind. This realization was so pivotal that it later inspired him to pursue his Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. A journey he has recently completed.

His knowledge in acupuncture has allowed Nick to make a significant contribution at Koryu Dojo in the domain of Kyusho Jitsu. His training as a healer and a well trained martial artist gives Nick a very unique outlook on the human body and how it reacts to different situations. It has allowed him to provide much help and insight to the students so that they may refine their skills.
